Every Hour Is a Miracle
To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle, every cubic inch of space is a miracle.
Whitman's word-miracle-doesn't mean rare or exceptional. It means worthy of notice. A miracle is what happens when you actually look at the thing in front of you instead of through it. The light that reaches your eye right now has traveled unimaginable distance. Your attention, meeting it, creates something that wasn't there before. Not sentiment. Just the specific ache of being alive and awake to it.
Question for today
What small thing can you look at long enough to see it?
Practice
Pick one ordinary object within arm's reach and study it for thirty seconds without naming it. Notice what you've never seen before.
