The Familiar Weight
People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.
We know our pain like we know the shape of our own hands. It fits. It answers to our name. The thought of releasing it feels like stepping into a room with no walls, no floor we can name. So we tend it. We rehearse it. We choose the ache we recognize over the blank space that might come after. This is not weakness. It is the mind's old logic: better a known sorrow than an untested silence.
Question for today
What small suffering have you held onto simply because you cannot yet imagine what your hands might do without it?
Practice
Sit for one minute with your hands open on your lap, palms up. Notice what it feels like to hold nothing.
