Casting the Line Into Now

Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in.
Henry David Thoreau
Sunrise No. 062
Sunrise No. 062

Thoreau means this literally. Not metaphor. When you fish, you are not elsewhere. Your hand knows the weight of the line. Your eye tracks the small disturbance. Time becomes the thing itself, not something happening to you while you wait for life to start. Most mornings we are thinking about time, standing beside it, anxious. But to fish in it, to be in it with attention and patience, is to stop running. This is available now.

Question for today

Where are you standing beside your life instead of in it?

Practice

Before breakfast, breathe in for four counts, hold for seven, exhale for eight. Do this three times. Notice what shifts.
